The above nude silhouette image was taken from a shoot I did a few years ago for an Italian cosmetics company to be used as their advertising campaign that year for some body care products. The lighting is essentially very simple because it all comes from behind the model but there are a few tricks and good uses of technique that help to create the perfect nude silhouette effect.
Photographers who only shoot images for personal use that will never be published really don’t need a model release, but professionals or indeed any amateur who is publishing material for commercial usage should generally obtain a signed release from the model, where the subject consents to the usage of their image in various media as specified in the release. This was shot as part of a series for a beauty fitness editorial in Italy, so first of all I needed a model with an athletic physique, but it was equally important to find a suitable location, so that it didn’t completely dominate the subject, but instead helped to create the desired feel for the whole set of images.
