Nude Photography by Ben Heys – Artofimagery.com

Last week I found myself in touch with another photographer by the name of Ben Heys who is based in Australia and shoots quite a lot of nude photography. We starting talking about the business and during that conversation Ben told me about a site he has recently launched at artofimagery.com which includes a selection of his beautiful images. Nude Photography Beauty Advertising On Location In South Africa

Nude Photography For Advertising

The above nude image was part of a beauty assignment I did in South Africa for an Italian cosmetics client. The team which flew out there must have been about ten people but not everybody was there to work directly on the photography.

This particular day had been extremely hectic, since we were unable to start as early as I would have liked and there had already been a shoot on the beach that morning with the same model followed by another shoot at a rented house nearby. It then took an hour or so in the mini van to reach the final location before we started the hard walk up to the waterfall. Continue reading

Canon 24-105L For Glamour And Nude Photography

Canon 24-105L

Canon 24-105L

Canon 24-105L

For many years 99% of my professional photography was all done using a Hasselblad and I still think they are beautiful cameras.

There are various jobs though which can be done very well using a good 35mm DSLR and my current weapon of choice for those occasions is the Canon 1DsII. I know there is a new 5DII and even a 1DsIII, but the fact is that I am happy with what I have and don’t want to upgrade my camera just for the sake of it every time a new camera appears on the market. I have done some serious side by side testing and in practice the differences are just too small to warrant a change and quite often the 1DsII still comes out best. Continue reading

Why Your Camera Equipment Should Always Be Insured

This morning I received a letter from the insurance company for the renewal of the policy on my camera equipment, which I always do every year, though I have never personally had to make a claim. That’s partly down to luck but mainly down to a concerted effort on my part to make sure equipment is always well looked after. Nevertheless it is because of the story below that I continue to pay the premium every year… Continue reading

How To Ruin An Alfa Romeo

Something earlier reminded me of a funny story from many years ago and I thought it was worth retelling as a bit of fun to kick off the new year. Going back to the early 90′s there was a rather well known fashion photographer in Milan had just taken on a new assistant (not me) and had asked him to pack away some equipment that had to be transported to an assignment where they would be shooting a series of nude photography images for a beauty editorial. Shooting Professional Glamour Photography In An Apartment

Glamour Photography

The topless glamour image above was done as part of job a couple years ago using my 1DsII and a Tamron 28-75 zoom. The photo was taken in a narrow hallway, so space was pretty tight. According to the Exif data for that image I still managed to work at 75mm though, which is a very reasonable focal length for glamour.  Continue reading

Earlier today I was sifting through a storage area underneath the stairs where I found a large box that contained roughly a dozen folders with a large chunk of my old film archives and it was a real trip down memory lane. In the first folder I found the transparency for this image which is actually from the very last job I did on film before my first experiments with digital. Continue reading

Canon 85mm F1.8 for Glamour, Beauty and Nudes

Canon 85mm F1.8

The lens you see above is a Canon 85mm F1.8 that I originally purchased back in about 1992 if my memory serves me right. It’s actually the second oldest lens in my collection and I’ve used it on countless jobs over the years. Remarkably it still feels & handles like a brand new lens, performing well in the era of high resolution digital cameras, even though it was very much intended for film use when originally designed.
