Irving Penn fashion

Yesterday I heard that my photographic hero Irving Penn had died aged 92. A true photographic master, I can think of no greater influence in fashion photography during the last century and the perfection of his images still amazes and inspires decades later.

Seemingly timeless with a stylish elegance that has possibly never been matched, his images always appear modern and he was equally capable, whether shooting portraits, fashion, beauty, still life or nudes.

Printed images in my bedroom

Yesterday afternoon I took a trip out of town to a large shopping complex that has all kinds of items on sale from tents, to carpeting and even goldfish. While wondering though I happened to see a department where they had lots of picture frames, so it suddenly felt like a good idea to buy some and put a few images on the wall.

One of the subjects close to my heart is the importance for photographers in maintaining control and ownership of their images plus not giving away their work for free. For too many years photographers have allowed themselves to be exploited in many cases and either handed over all rights for a song or even relinquished all copyright.
