While writing my book recently on nude photography, it became apparent that I should really search out some models from the internet; something I had never done before, so that I could pass on some information about how it works and what is involved. Having spoken to a few other photographers, it seemed clear that they had mixed experiences, so I faced this challenge with a certain trepidation.
My biggest concern revolved around the shear lack of standard ground rules compared to what I was used to when dealing with agencies. In practice it turned out to be worse than I expected but perhaps I was unlucky. It does seem clear however, that many of these “models” are not really serious about their work.
The most common issues seem to be:
1) They don’t turn up on the day
2) They can’t understand the difference between advertising and editorial
3) Some of them want chaperones to be present on the day of the shoot
4) Quite often they look nothing like their pictures online
5) Let’s face it, they aren’t really models…
At some time in the future I’ll discuss this subject in greater depth and try to offer some advice. It is possible to locate reasonable models through the internet for shooting nudes, but you may need some patience and persistence…
